HS volleyball update: Montgomery Academy wins Mac Attack Tournament

Montgomery Academy won seven matches last week and earned the title of its annual Mac Attack Tournament.

Class 5A fourth-ranked Montgomery Academy (11-3) beat Demopolis and Selma in regular season area matches before running off five tournament wins.

The Eagles beat Carver-Montgomery, Elmore County and Beaugard in pool play before downing Brewbaker Tech and LAMP for the championship.

Addi Vinson set up the big hitters with 95 assists, adding 21 digs and 22 aces for the week while Elle McBride had 39 kills and 23 digs and Caroline McDaniel had 28 kills and 31 digs.

Emmy Sorrell contributed 53 digs on defense.

CLASS 7A

Top-ranked Bob Jones (14-0) continued to play well, downing James Clemens, Bayside, Mountain Brook and McGill-Toolen.

Kennedy Vaughn had 54 kills, surpassing 1,000 career kills, 10 blocks and 15 digs, Eliza Tyrrell had 40 kills, 7 aces, 18 blocks and 14 digs, Meg Jarrett had 55 digs, surpassing 1,500 career digs, 4 aces, 14 assists and a 2.40 serve-receive rating and Riley Lovell had 91 assists, 40 digs and 8 aces.

Second-ranked McGill-Toolen (9-3) was 3-2 with wins over Baker, Saraland and Bayside and losses to Mountain Brook and Bob Jones.

Laura Boykin had 6 aces, 124 assists and 42 digs, Emma Moore had 48 kills, 3 aces, 13 digs and 11 blocks and Juliet Galla had 6 aces and 99 digs with a 2.3 passer rating.

Third-ranked Vestavia Hills (6-5) was 1-2 with a win over Helena and losses to Northridge and Mountain Brook as Audrey Vielguth surpassed 1,000 career dig in the match against Mountain Brook. She had 40 digs for the week while Mille Burgess had 24 kills with a .259 hitting percentage.

Fourth-ranked Spain Park (4-3) beat Shades Valley on senior night as Megan Ingersoll had 12 kills, 14 digs and 3 aces, Cailyn Kyes had 25 assists, 3 digs and 3 aces, Grace Devlin had 14 digs, Alexa Benda had 7 kills and Reagan Gilbert had 10 aces and 10 digs.

Fifth-ranked Hoover (8-4) beat Homewood and lost to Mountain Brook.

Kendyl Mitchell had a career-high double-double with 20 kills with a .429 hitting percentage and 18 digs with a 2.2 passer rating against Homewood while Addison Bentley had 14 assists, 13 digs and 3 aces, Olivia Guenster had 23 digs a 2.7 serve-receive rating and Madi Lopez had 21 assists, 2 kills and 3 digs.

Seventh-ranked Thompson (9-2) was 2-1 with wins over Briarwood and Auburn and a loss to Montgomery Academy.

Olivia Kelly had 71 assists, surpassing 1,000 career assists, with 19 digs and 6 aces.

Coach Judy Green also notched career win No. 1,000 last week.

Eighth-ranked St. Paul’s (8-2) beat UMS-Wright and St. Michael as Janie Ford had 7 kills with a .333 hitting percentage, 4 blocks, 5 digs and 5 aces, Clarissa DuPree had 26 kills with a .316hitting percentage and 1.9 serve-receive rating and Sydney Conrad had 19 kills with a .310 hitting percentage.

No. 10 Enterprise (9-3) was 6-1 with a regular season win over Auburn and earning the Nike Invitational Gold Elite tournament title in Tampa, Fla. The Wildcats beat Omaha Northwest (Neb.), Lee County (Ga.), Lakewood Ranch (Fla.) and lost to St. Mary’s (NY) in pool play and beat McKeel Academy (Fla.) and St. John Paul II (Fla.).

Heather Holtz had 131 assists and 12 aces, Jadyn Britton had 58 kills and 39 digs, Alivia Freeman had 31 blocks and 25 kills and Abigail Wiggins had 30 kills and 27 digs.

Auburn (4-7) lost to Enterprise and Thomspon as Adalyn Lassiter had 16 digs, Kambell Fetner had 17 kills and Mackenzie Farr had 15 kills,

Daphne (5-9) was 3-4 with a regular season loss to Spanish Fort and beating Deane Bozeman (Fla.), Athens and Orange Beach in the Foley Labor Day Classic and losing to Pensacola (Fla.), Blountstown (Fla.) and Pace (Fla.).

Ella Lomax had 51 kills, 59 digs, 14 aces and 4 blocks, Isabella Charlton had 61 digs, 23 kills and 11 aces and Charlotte Mekkers had 10 aces, 33 kills with a .242 hitting percentage and 5 blocks.

Fairhope (16-2) was won 12 matches last week, including earning the championship of Foley’s Labor Day Classic Tournament

The Pirates beat Robertsdale, Bayshore Christian, Satsuma, Baldwin County and Elberta in regular season play then beat Central-Tuscaloosa, Elberta, Blountstown (Fla.), Athens, Crestview (Fla.), Spanish Fort and Navarre (Fla.).

Peyton Frazer had 50 kills, 5 aces and 2 blocks, Abby Nelson had 15 aces and 96 digs with a 2.20 serve-receive rating and Libby Rogers had 168 assists, 33 kills, 14 aces and 3 blocks.

Huntsville (7-3) was 5-1 with wins over DAR, Hartselle, Central-Florence, Tuscaloosa County and Austin and a loss to Hazel Green in its Ironman Tournament semifinal round.

Liz Thomas had 58 digs and 10 aces and Ke Bowen had 43 kills and 11 blocks.

St. James (10-1) was 8-1 last week with regular season wins against Prattville and Russell County and a loss to Montgomery Catholic. The Trojans won the Corner Classic Tournament, beating Moody twice, Pleasant Grove, Oak Grove, Hueytown and host Corner.

Kaylin Corley had 30 aces, 97 kills with a .253 hitting percentage, 2 blocks, 68 digs and 18 assists, Ava Card had 11 aces, 102 kills with a .279 hitting percentage, 3 blocks 72 digs and 11 assists and Tatiana Shuford had 11 aces, 8 kills, 6 blocks, 52 digs and 194 assists.

Second-ranked Arab (9-2) was 6-1 with wins over Cullman, Southside-Gadsden, Westminster Christian, Lawrence County, Scottsboro and Danville and a loss Madison Academy.

Eighth-ranked Madison Academy (10-7) was 6-4 with regular season wins against Arab and St. John Paul II and losses to Southside-Gadsden, Guntersville and Hazel Green. The Mustangs beat Cullman, Austin, Madison County and Tuscaloosa County lost to Arlington (Tenn.) in Huntsville’s Ironman Tournament.

Isabelle Sutton had 75 kills, 79 digs, 8 aces and 2 blocks, Sydney Privett had 48 kills, 11 aces and 3 blocks, Molly Byrne had 194 assists, 71 digs and 10 aces and Maile Cooper had a 2.4 serve-receive rating with 14 aces and 64 digs.

Ninth-ranked Lawrence County (6-8) was 2-3 with wins over Phil Campbell and Shoals Christian losses to Arab, Southside-Gadsden and Guntersville.

Ava Boyll had 59 kills and 20 digs, Kylie Graham had 17 kills and 56 assists and Sarah Dutton had 38 digs and 10 aces.

Faith Academy (6-4) was 5-3 with regular season wins over Baker, Baldwin County, Alma Bryant and Murphy and beating Decatur Heritage and Baldwin County and losing to Gulf Breeze (Fla.), Saraland and Pace (Fla.) in Foley’s Labor Day Classic Tournament.

Parker Goff had 109 kills with a .277 hitting percentage, 48 digs, 24 aces, 7 blocks and 5 assists, Destyni Winbush had 70 digs, 26 kills, 11 aces, 10 blocks and 10 assists and Chloe Duggan had 142 assists and 29 digs.

Leeds (5-7) was 3-4 with a regular season win over Pinson Valley and loss to John Carroll and wins against Montevallo and Oak Grove and losses to Corner and Sumiton Christian in the Corner tournament.

Katelyn Howard had 11 kills in the tournament while Indya Rogers had 10 kills, Hannalyse Hudson had 34 assists and Gianna Davis had 9 kills.

CLASS 4A

Top-ranked Trinity (2-1) beat Prattville Christian and lost to Pike Road as Isabel Hill had 43 digs, 5 assists, 5 aces and a 2.16 passer rating on 62 attempts and Anna Moore had 25 kills with a .215 hitting percentage.

Second-ranked Montgomery Catholic (7-2) beat St. James and Prattville Christian.

Joi McGuire had 21 kills, 25 digs and 4 aces, Harper Howell had 22 kills, 4 blocks and 9 aces, Mally Barranco had 34 digs, Maria Schwarz had 77 assists and Kathryn Reardon had 18 kills.

Third-ranked Madison County was 7-4 with regular season wins over Tanner, Buckhorn and Ardmore and losses to DAR and Good Hope and Ironman Tournament wins over Austin, Cullman, Brooks and Central-Florence and losses to Madison Academy and Arlington (Tenn.) in semifinal play.

Ninth-ranked DAR (10-5) was 5-3 with regular season wins over Douglas and Madison County and a loss to Good Hope and wins over Central-Florence, Tuscaloosa County and Cullman an losses to host Huntsville and Hazel Green at the Ironman Tournament.

Emily Reeves had 86 kills and 106 digs with 2.03 serve-receive percentage, Chloe Walker had 94 assists, 50 kills and 48 digs and Tana Osborne had 125 digs with a 1.93 serve-receive percentage.

Brooks (6-7) was 2-5 with a regular season win over Lauderdale County and loss to Loretto (Tenn.) and a tournament win over Plainview with losses to Hazel Green, Grissom, Hartselle and Madison County.

Eevy Bellar had 101 kills, 16 blocks, 55 digs and 16 aces, Malaina Cloud had 87 assists, 48 kills, 46 digs and 22 aces. Rylee Harbin had 63 digs and 15 aces and Hayley Parker had 16 aces.

Priceville (5-10) was 4-5 with a regular season win over Decatur Heritage and losses to Falkville, Buckhorn and Hartselle and Albertville Invitational wins over Jacksonville, Hanceville and Faith Academy in the Silver Bracket title match and losses to Albertville and Danville.

Ashlyn Johnson had 66 assists, 38 digs, 12 kills and 4 aces, Abby Langlois had 34 kills and 9 aces and Maddi Kennedy had 48 digs and 3 aces.

UMS-Wright (2-2) beat St. Luke’s and lost to St. Paul’s as Noel Freeman had 20 kills in 39 attempts with a .385 hitting percentage, 5 blocks and 4 digs and Chandler Thomas had 10 kills, 2 blocks, 20 assists and 19 digs.

Sixth-ranked Lauderdale County (14-2) was 7-2 last week, beating Muscle Shoals and losing to Central-Florence and Brooks in regular season play and beating Falkville twice, Locust Fork, Holly Pond twice and Gaylesville to win the Cold Springs tournament.

Molly Burchell had 72 kills and 26 digs, Elena Dabbs had 37 kills and 23 blocks, Laura Clemmons had 41 kills and 7 blocks and Brayden Chandler had 49 kills and 22 blocks.

Eighth-ranked Geraldine (8-3) won four matches beating Cherokee County, Piedmont, Crossville and Ider.

Brooklyn Hall had 31 kills, 10 aces, 9 digs and 7 blocks, Kentlei Rogers had 26 kills, 9 aces, 3 digs and 5 blocks and Hallie Burns had 3 aces and 31 digs.

Ninth-ranked 3A Mobile Christian (9-0) won eight matches last week, beating Mary G Montgomery and St. Michael in regular season play. The Leopards won Battle by the Lake in Guntersville, beating Boaz, Oak Mountain JV, Spring Garden, Pleasant Valley, Sand Rock and Guntersville for the title.

Melissa Patel had 138 digs with a 2.3 passer rating, Melaina Haines had 20 aces, 97 kills, 53 digs and 82 assists and Haley Eldridge had 9 aces, 46 digs and 89 assists.

CLASS 2A

Fifth-ranked Sand Rock (11-5) was 7-2 with wins over Sardis, Gaston and West End and a loss to Plainview in regular season play. The Wildcats were 4-1 at the Battle by the Lake Tournament at Supreme Courts in Guntersville, beating beat Oneonta, White Plains and Ramsay in pool play and beat Decatur Gold Bracket action before losing to Mobile Christian in the semifinal round.

Rylin St.Clair had 187 assists and 16 aces, Katelyn St.Clair had 97 kills and 8 aces, Chloe Stephens had 111 digs and 11 aces and Zoey Handy had 43 kills and 13 blocks.

Isabella (2-2) beat Central Coosa as Lexi Higgins had 9 kills and 3 blocks, Makayla Logan had 7 aces and 11 assists and Amelia Fjeldstad had 6 aces, 12 digs and 13 assists.

CLASS 1A

Top-ranked Addison (9-1) beat St. Bernard and Danville as Hadley Butler had 46 assists, 5 kills and 8 digs, Dacey Baker had 14 kills and 4 digs and Bailee Ory had 16 digs.

Fourth-ranked Athens Bible beat Oakwood and lost to Belgreen as Claire Holt had 25 kills, 11 digs and 11 blocks and Anna Beth Burns had 44 assists.

Sixth-ranked Meek (10-4) was 5-2 with a regular season win over Phillips and loss to Curry and tournament wins over Gaylesville, Carbon Hill, Cold Springs and Locust Fork and a loss to Holly Pond.

Peyton Johnson had 48 kills, 78 digs and 7 aces, Laney Phillips had 24 kills, 9 aces and 6 blocks and Marlee Mosley had 97 digs and 7 aces.

Covenant Christian (2-4) beat Waterloo as Zoe Griffin had 12 kills, 8 digs and 4 aces.

Faith Christian (8-7) was 4-4 with wins over Sardis, Glencoe, Cleburne County, Hanceville and Jacksonville and losses to Westbrook Christian, Springville, New Hope and Priceville.

Lexington (11-4) was 8-2 last week with regular season wins over Rogers, Sheffield and Florence and a loss to Deshler. The Bears won the Fayette County Labor Day Bash with a 5-1 mark, beating Cordova, Lamar County and Fayette County and losing to Deshler in pool play and beating Lamar County and Deshler for the title.

Reanna Springer had 67 kills, 54 digs and 25 aces, Alex Howard had 69 kills and 25 blocks and Charli Turner had 149 assists, 18 kills and 10 blocks.

Second-ranked Glenwood (7-2) won two matches, beating Hooper Academy and Calvary Christian as Olivia Slocumb had 8 aces, 46 assists and 23 digs and Anna Grace Griggs had 25 kills and 21 digs.

Fourth-ranked Hooper Academy (5-1) beat Southern Academy and lost to Glenwood.
