Hoover falls to 0-2 for first time since 2014 after loss to Mississippi team

Mississippi’s Oak Grove used a 10-yard scoring pass in overtime to hand Hoover a 28-21 loss, its second straight loss to start the season for the first time since 2014.

Hoover lost to Central of Miami and Colquitt County (Ga.) to start the 2014 season.

Hoover had a chance to win the game in regulation, but kicker Matthew Daibes missed a 33-yard field goal attempt with 1:40 left.

Oak Grove scored in overtime on a 10-yard pass from Anthony Maddox to Damari Jefferson while Hoover failed to score.

Hoover dominated the stat sheet, especially with its ground game, but couldn’t capitalize.

Quarterback Noah Schuback threw two first half touchdowns, finding Jordan Woolen for 48-yard score in the second quarter, and connecting with Chris Warren on a 34-yard pass with 21 seconds in the half.

Oak Grove scored on a punt return and TD pass from Maddox Tajii Burkett in the half.

Jonah Winston ended the Hoover scoring with a 3-yard run after a blocked punt by Jordan Moultrie at the Oak Grove 6-yard line.

An Oak Grove screen pass to Prentiss Woodland tied the score at 21-all, setting up the final Bucs drive leading to the missed field goal.
