Cam Newton issues âFreeze warningâ for Auburnâs game
Like a lot of Auburn fans, former Tigers All-American Cam Newton seems excited for Hugh Freeze’s first game as the program’s head coach.
Freeze will guide Auburn in its season-opening game against Massachusetts at 2:30 p.m. CDT Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. ESPN will televise the game.
While the forecast calls for the kickoff temperature to be a little higher than 80 degrees, Newton tweeted out a “Freeze warning” for his fellow Auburn fans.
Freeze replaced Bryan Harsin, who produced records of 6-7 and 5-7 in his two seasons on the Plains – Auburn’s only back-to-back losing seasons this century.

At Auburn, Newton won the 2010 Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year Award as the Tigers quarterback. He paced Auburn through an undefeated season to the BCS national championship.
The first player picked in the 2011 NFL Draft, Newton spent the next 11 seasons in the pros. He won the NFL Most Valuable Player Award and earned first-team All-Pro recognition in 2015, when he led the Carolina Panthers to Super Bowl 50.
Newton holds the NFL record for touchdown runs by a quarterback with 75.
