Two ranked teams stand between Tide and SEC West title

With four weeks remaining in the regular season, the big-picture goal for one-loss Alabama remains clear: make it to the SEC championship game, then compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

The Tide can punch its ticket to Atlanta if it wins its next two games, both on the road. If Alabama defeats LSU next Saturday and Ole Miss on Nov. 12, it would clinch the SEC West for the eighth time in the past 11 seasons.

Two ranked opponents stand in Alabama’s way.

LSU moved up from No. 20 to No. 17 in Sunday’s coaches poll after having Saturday off. Ole Miss moved up to No. 10 from No. 12 in the same poll after escaping College Station with a three-point win over unranked Texas A&M on Saturday night.

Alabama, which had its traditional late-October open week, remained No. 6 in the coaches poll after last week’s top four teams won and No. 5 Clemson did not play.

The Associated Press poll will be released later Sunday.

Coaches poll top 10:

1. Georgia (45)

2. Ohio State (13)

3. Tennessee (5)

4. Michigan

5. Clemson

6. Alabama

7. TCU

8. Oregon

9. USC

10. Ole Miss
