Capital murder suspect in Huntsville shooting captured in Indiana, police say
Indiana authorities captured a man suspected in the fatal shooting and robbery of another man Monday in Huntsville, police said Thursday night.
Damon Andrew Blinks, 28, of Greencastle, Indiana, was apprehended by Carmel, Indiana police on Wednesday.
He was charged Thursday with capital murder, said Huntsville police spokeswoman Sydney Martin.
Blinks is suspected of fatally shooting 23-year-old Devin Tyler McDonald around 10:40 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of Quality Circle.
McDonald was found unresponsive around 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Huntsville investigators believed Blinks fled to Indiana in McDonald’s vehicle after the shooting.
Indiana authorities took him into custody Wednesday. At the time, McDonald’s vehicle was recovered in Blinks’ possession.
Huntsville investigators went to Indiana on Thursday to speak to Blinks about the incident, leading to the suspect being charged with capital murder.
Blinks is expected to be extradited back to Huntsville and booked in the Madison County Jail on the capital murder charge.
Police did not say when they expect Blinks to be in Alabama.
The case remained under investigation as of Thursday. Further information was unavailable.
The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has charged Damon Andrew Blinks, 28, of Greencastle, Indiana, with capital murder for the robbery and deadly shooting that happened in the 300 block of Quality Circle around 10:40 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 28.
HPD officers responded to the area on Tuesday, Aug. 29, around 7 a.m. for an unresponsive subject laying in the parking lot and identified him as Devin Tyler McDonald, 23. McDonald was pronounced dead at the scene.
Major Crimes Unit investigators believe Blinks fled to Indiana in the victim’s vehicle following the shooting. He was taken into custody by authorities in Indiana on Wednesday, Aug. 30, and McDonald’s vehicle was recovered in Blinks’ possession.
HPD Major Crimes Unit Investigators traveled to Indiana on Thursday, Aug. 31, to speak with Blinks about the incident, and he was formally charged with capital murder.
HPD would like to thank the Carmel Police Department in Indiana for their assistance with safely apprehending Blinks. He is facing additional charges from their department.
Blinks will be extradited back to Huntsville at a later date and booked in the Madison County Jail on the capital murder charge.
The case remains under investigation. At this time, no further information is available.
