McAdory quarterback Jacob Clopton earned the most votes in Week 1 of the Hollis Wright Birmingham area football player of the week poll.

The senior ran 12 times for 102 yards and completed half of his passes for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 33-23 setback to Oxford.

Clopton picked up 24 percent of the 12,725 votes cast – 3,016 total.

Garreett Ames of Mortimer Jordan finished second in the poll with 2,109 votes – 17 percent of the total. Ames threw for 230 yards and two TDs in a 31-28 win at Leeds.

Banks Academy quarterback Gerrel Perry was third in the balloting after throwing for 229 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-30 win over Bessemer Academy.

Voting for Hollis Wright Birmingham Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday. Nominees are determined from statistics submitted by coaches or official team statisticians before noon each Saturday.

In Week 1, more than 39,000 votes were cast across the three AL.com player of the week polls.
