Alabama prison canteen worker allegedly tried to smuggle cell phone into Holman Correctional Facility
An Alabama prison worker was arrested Wednesday morning after authorities say she tried to bring a cell phone into the facility.
Katoshia Brown, who works in the canteen at W.C. Holman Correctional Facility, was arrested as she arrived to work just before 8 a.m.
Brown was searched prior to reporting to her designated work area, according to Alabama Department of Corrections officials. She was found to be in possession of a contraband cell phone.
Brown is charged with prohibited activity and first-degree promoting prison contraband. She was taken to the Escambia County Detention Center for booking.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed.
Brown has been employed with ADOC since Jan. 17, 2023, and submitted her resignation immediately following this morning’s arrest.
