How much cash will UMass take home after playing Auburn on Saturday?

Whether it’s a win, lose or draw for UMass when they play Auburn Saturday afternoon at Jordan-Hare Stadium, the visiting Minutemen will be leaving The Plains with deeper pockets than what they arrived with.

UMass, which was ranked dead last at No. 133 in many preseason FBS rankings, is set to come to Auburn Saturday after beating New Mexico State 41-30 last week and collect $1.95 million from the Tigers — regardless of the game’s result — Forbes reported Tuesday.

Last season, Texas A&M hosted UMass in a game that saw the Minutemen, who went 1-11 last fall, keep the Aggies on the ropes. While Texas A&M went on to beat UMass 20-3, the Minutemen tucked $1.7 million into their pockets before heading back to Amherst.

UMass, which is an independent FBS program and therefore doesn’t reap the financial benefits of conference affiliations, will make $1.6 million for its visit to Penn State on Oct. 14. Meanwhile, Auburn will once again open its checkbook in November when it sends New Mexico State home with $1.85 million after the two programs meet at Jordan-Hare on Nov. 18.

Other football programs spending considerable amounts of cash on matchups against non-Power 5 programs include Michigan State paying Central Michigan $1.75 million, Michigan paying East Carolina $1.8 million, Kentucky paying Ball State $1.65 million and Alabama paying Middle Tennessee $1.6 million.
