Mobile County 911 director resigns from post after DUI arrest

The director of Mobile County 911 reportedly resigned Monday after he was arrested over the weekend on DUI charges — his third intoxication-related arrest in five years.

Charles Kane McNichol, 58, submitted his resignation to the Mobile County Board of Commissioners on Monday morning, WKRG reported.

McNichol told the outlet that his resignation was effective Monday and that he no longer works for Mobile County 911.

He had been charged Saturday with driving under the influence and released on $1,000 bond, according to Mobile County Sheriff’s Office records.

McNichol has had two similar arrests, according to news reports. In 2020, he was arrested by Daphne police after he was found unconscious behind the wheel of his county-issued vehicle. He also faced a public intoxication charge in 2018 for an incident that occurred when he was in his vehicle, according to WKRG.
