Another Alabama high school football game disrupted: Mattie Blount, Vigor players drop to field

Yet another Alabama high school game was disrupted as a fight sent people running in fear at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Saturday night and forced players from Mattie Blount and Vigor to drop to the ground.

The disruption came just as the game’s second half was about to start.

Blount stands started clearing out while fans stayed in the Vigor stands. The game resumed after a delay of about 25 minutes.

Mobile County schools superintendent Chresal Threadgill and athletic director Brad Lowell were on the field.

Lowell said police investigated and found no threat. Lowell said he was not aware of any arrests.

“It was just a group of kids that started running and that is it,” Lowell said. “There’s no safety issues right now and we had to make sure everything was safe in order to get the game back started.”

Blount principal Jerome Woods said it “was a simple fight between some kids” and there was no gunfire. “It scared some people and when they started running, everybody else followed suit.”

On Friday night, an assistant coach for Hueytown tackled a 16-year-old authorities said brought a gun to the Ramsay game. That game resumed after a brief delay.

During the Hazel Green and Sparkman game a “major disruption” led to the stadium being cleared and the game suspended.

A personal foul penalty against Moody for a late hit out of bounds against Pell City touched off a scuffle between the two teams near the Pell City sideline.

As coach Rush Propst’s son, John David Propst, attempted to rush into the fray, Propst reacted by ripping off his headset and throwing it at his son from a short distance. The headset broke apart.
