Check out the nominees for the Cunningham Bounds Coastal Alabama Football Player of the Week for Week 1 of the 2032 high school football season.
Coaches can submit statistics following their games on Friday night or nominate players before noon each Saturday.
Nominations must come from a coach or official team statistician. They can be emailed to [email protected].
Voting is open until Wednesday morning. The winner will be announced on AL.com on Thursday.
Here are this week’s nominees:
Justin Adams, Citronelle: Adams rushed for 146 yards and 3 TDs on 11 carries as the Wildcats edged rival Millry 27-26.
Takyi Askew, T.R. Miller: Askew ran for 191 yards on 18 carries as T.R. Miller beat Hillcrest-Evergreen in OT. His yardage included a 68-yard TD run.
Jarrett Daughtry, Faith Academy: The senior QB went 15-of-20 for 199 yards and 5 TDs as the Rams opened the season with a win over J.A.G.
PJ Brown, Mobile Christian: Brown rushed for 226 yards on 19 carries as Mobile Christian avenged last year’s loss to Athens (Ga.) Academy. He had a 66-yard TD run to close the scoring.
Nick Clark, Daphne: The senior rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns on a workman-like 21 carries as the Trojans broke a scoreless halftime tie to beat Murphy 19-0 on Thursday.
Sammy Dunn, Bayside Academy: Dunn threw for 266 yards and 3 TDs as the Admirals opened the Barrett Trotter era with a win over Elberta. He finished 16-of-20 for 266 yards.
Jax Filmore, Flomaton: Filmore rushed for 344 yards and 5 TDs on 32 carries as the Hurricanes defeated Northview, Fla., 35-14.
Josh Flowers, Baker: Flowers, a Mississippi State commit, ran for two scores and threw for three more as the Hornets surprised Theodore. He finished with 254 yards passing and 66 yards rushing.
Asher Hale, St. Paul’s: The big offensive lineman helped pave the way for RB Anthony Fraiser to rush for 119 yards and a TD and the Saints to beat rival UMS-Wright. Hale is committed to South Alabama.
Jared Hollins, Mary G. Montgomery: The South Alabama QB commit threw 2 TD passes and ran for 2 more as the Vikings whipped Williamson. He was 9-of-11 for 318 yards and also rushed twice for 73 yards.
Kolton Nero, Foley: Nero rushed for 288 yards and 3 touchdowns on 19 carries as the Lions routed Prattville in their season opener.
Michael Thomas, LeFlore: Thomas had 12 tackles for LeFlore as the Rattlers won their first came at their new on-campus stadium and ended a 23-game losing streak in the process.
Ryan Williams, Saraland: The reigning Mr. Football got his 2023 campaign off on the right foot, scoring the winning touchdown on a 10-yard run in OT as the Spartans topped Lipscomb Academy in OT. Williams also had a 50-yard TD reception and finished with seven receptions for 88 yards.
Kolin Wilson, Gulf Shores: The Mobile Christian transfer ran for 244 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries in his Dolphin debut. His 99-yard TD run was the longest in Gulf Shores history. He also added a 79-yard run and added scoring runs of 16 and 17 yards.
Amari Yelding, B.C. Rain: Yelding threw four touchdown passes and ran for another as B.C. Rain opened its on-campus stadium with a 34-14 win over Excel.
