Young, the former Alabama star, is expected to get snaps in the game, which is the third of the preseason for Carolina, which is winless in its first two games.
The Panthers lost 27-0 to the Jets, then fell 21-19 to the New York Giants.
The Lions, meanwhile, are 1-1 after beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 25-7 to recover from a 21-16 victory over the New York Giants in the first game.
