Texans put rookie tackle from Auburn on injured reserve
Rookie offensive tackle Kilian Zierer played more than half the offensive snaps in each of the Houston Texans’ two preseason games. But his 2023 NFL season is over, at least with the Texans.
Zierer sustained an ankle injury during Houston’s 28-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, and the Texans placed him on injured reserve on Thursday.

By being placed on injured reserve before Tuesday’s deadline to reduce preseason rosters to the regular-season limit of 53 players, Zierer will not be able to play for Houston in 2023. The only way he could play now is if the Texans released him with an injury settlement, and he signed with another team when healthy, if that’s possible this season.
After working as Auburn’s left tackle during the 2022 season, Zierer signed with Houston when he was not selected in the NFL Draft in April.
Zierer played 79 offensive snaps and three special-teams plays in two preseason games for Houston.
