Excessive heat warnings again for Alabama on Thursday

The heatwave will roll on again on Thursday across Alabama.

The National Weather Service is forecasting highs to top out in the mid- to upper 90s statewide again today, and there are a slew of excessive heat warnings and heat advisories that will be in effect.

The heat index, or “feels like” temperature, could climb as high as 114 degrees in some areas today, according to the weather service.

More unseasonably hot (even for August) temperatures are in the forecast for Friday — and through the weekend as well.

Here is the forecast for Friday:

Friday could be a degree or two hotter in some areas.

There could be a break of sorts by next week — at least for the northern half of the state. Highs by Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to “only” be in the 80s, according to the weather service.

Tuesday highs

A little bit of a cooldown is forecast for the northern part of Alabama by Tuesday.

South Alabama, however, will miss out on those lower readings and stay locked in the 90s.

Here is a look at Thursday’s heat warnings and advisories:

NORTH ALABAMA

* Excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. Friday for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan and Cullman counties. The weather service said dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 114 will be possible.

* Heat advisory until 8 p.m. Friday for Jackson, Marshall, and Dekalb counties. Heat index values up to 109 will be possible.

CENTRAL ALABAMA

Central Alabama advisories

Not all of central Alabama will be under heat advisories on Thursday.

* Excessive heat warning until 9 p.m. Friday for Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston, Walker, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Sumter, Greene, Hale and Bibb counties. The weather service said dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 111 will be possible.

* Heat advisory until 9 p.m. Friday for Blount, Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, St. Clair, Talladega, Shelby, Perry, Chilton, Coosa, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Lowndes, Elmore and Montgomery counties. Heat index values up to 108 will be possible.

* Heat advisory from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday for Cleburne, Clay, Randolph, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Macon, Bullock, Lee, Russell, Pike and Barbour counties. Heat index values up to 109 will be possible.

SOUTH ALABAMA

Here are the heat advisories for southwest Alabama.

* Heat advisory from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday for Choctaw, Washington, Clarke, Mobile and Baldwin counties. For the first heat advisory, heat index values up to 112 expected. For the second heat advisory, heat index values up to 110 expected.
