ALGOP chairman mum on 2024 presidential debate in Alabama

If Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl has knowledge of the state playing host to a GOP presidential debate, he’s keeping it close to the vest.

“Unfortunately, I have to say ‘no comment’ at this time,” Wahl told WHNT about the prospects of a debate in Alabama in an interview published Wednesday, the same day as the first 2024 GOP presidential debate from Milwaukee.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, has been confirmed as the setting for the second debate.

While the third location has not been confirmed, Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and 2024 GOP contender, claimed last month that the third debate would be held in Alabama.

“First debate’s August in Wisconsin. Second debate’s September at the Reagan Library. Third debate’s October in Alabama – by October, you’re going to see a totally different ball game,” Haley said, according to a tweet from Kit Maher of CNN.

In his interview with WHNT, Wahl was not as definitive.

“I am a big supporter of having the RNC come bring a debate to Alabama. It’s something that I’m constantly talking about, encouraging,” he said. “We’ll jut have to wait and see where that’s going, and hopefully get one here in Alabama.”
