Birmingham Business Alliance CEO: ‘Strong economies are regional economies’

In May former Jefferson County Commissioner Steve Ammons resigned from his role as representative of District 5 when he was hired as CEO of the Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA).

After nearly two decades of service as a local representative Ammons told the Lede in this week’s Q&A that he is ready to use his new role to uplift not only Birmingham but the entire region.

After your time serving on the Jefferson County Commission, what inspired your transition to the BBA?

I’ve been part of the Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA) for quite a while, and I’ve seen it evolve through various phases. When the opportunity arose for the organization to bring someone on board locally to fill the position of CEO, I started thinking about the folks in economic development and leadership across the community, and I recognized a gap that needed filling. A gap that I felt I could step into.

With my relationships and deep understanding of the BBA, I knew I could make an immediate impact stepping into the role. Based on my previous experiences, fellow board members trusted me to bridge that gap, enhance trust, and bring more capacity to the organization.
