More than 2,300 women sprinted to their new homes away from home in Tuscaloosa Sunday during Bid Day, the culmination of the University of Alabama’s sorority recruitment week, a ritual that remains a TikTok sensation.

Of the 2,549 women who attended the first round of Open House events for Fall 2023 Primary Recruitment, 92 percent (2,335 women) received bids from the 17 Panhellenic sororities that participated in recruitment, according to UA. Last year saw 2,345 women receive bids, accounting for 91.66 percent of the 2,556 women who participated.

UA reported Sunday that, of the total number of women who accepted bids, 306 (13 percent) self-identified as racial or ethnic minorities, a ratio that 4 percent higher than 2022 Primary Recruitment. In 2022, of the total number of women who accepted bids, 218 self-identified as racial or ethnic minorities.

Bama rush made national news again this year after Max released their long-awaited documentary about the sorority recruitment process and history in Tuscaloosa. The film, called “Bama Rush,” chronicled the experiences of four women participating in recruitment.
