A shooting outside a Family Dollar Friday afternoon in west Birmingham sent one man to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

The incident happened around 315 p.m. Friday at 2224 Bessemer Road.

The call to police went out as three people shot, including a child.

However, the victim — in a car with a 6-month-old and the child’s grandmother at the time of the shooting — was the only person shot.

The child was not injured. The grandmother was hit by shattered glass.

The man suffered life threatening injuries.

The suspect fled in a vehicle.
