A 58-year-old woman and 63-year-old man from Rainsville were killed Tuesday night when the Jeep Cherokee they were in collided with a street sweeper on I-459 near U.S. 280.
The names of the victims were not released by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office because family members have not been notified.
The woman was driving and the man was a passenger. They were pronounced dead at the scene about 35 minutes after the crash.
The crash occurred around 8:02 p.m. Tuesday on I-459 South near the 18-mile marker, said Sgt. Jeremy Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
The Rocky Ridge Fire Department said the wreck required “multiple extrications along with fatalities.”
The southbound lanes were closed for much of the night.
