An auto supplier is investing $114 million into an electric vehicle parts operation in Auburn.

Shinhwa Auto USA Corp. today announced a third expansion of its manufacturing operations, which is projected to create 50 jobs over three years.

A 170,000-square-foot production building in Auburn Technology Park West will expand die casting operations and add associated processes to make control arm, knuckle, carrier and motor housing covers for Hyundai, Kia and other automakers.

Gov. Kay Ivey said, in a statement, that “Shinhwa’s constant growth in Auburn demonstrates Alabama, through high levels of innovation and technical prowess, is preparing for an evolving future.”

The average salary of workers at the plant will be around $48,000, according to the Alabama Department of Commerce.

Kwi Hyun Lee, chairman of Shinhwa Group, said, “As one of the most innovative industrial manufacturers of aluminum car components, we are confident that the momentum we have achieved will continue to meet customers’ growing demand for high-quality products.”

Alabama Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield said of the announcement that the state’s auto sector is “experiencing a major growth spurt as the industry accelerates the transition toward an electric future.”
