Motorcyclist killed while fleeing law enforcement, hitting deputy’s parked cruiser, troopers say

A 35-year-old man was killed when authorities said he crashed his motorcycle while fleeing from law enforcement officers.

The wreck happened just before 7:30 p.m. Monday on U.S. 31 in Butler County, according to Alabama State Troopers.

Senior Trooper Kendra McKinney identified the fatality victim as Joseph Raphael Novelli. He lived in Evergreen.

McKinney did not say why Novelli was being pursued. She said he was driving a Kawasaki motorcycle that left the road, hit two mailboxes, and then struck a parked Conecuh County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
