Midfield barber charged with murder in fatal shooting of customer during an argument

A Midfield barber is in jail after authorities say he fatally shot a customer during an argument last week.

Sheldon Mullin, 32, of Bessemer is charged with murder, said Midfield Police Chief Jesse Bell.

Mullin, who worked at Frosting’s, is charged in the Aug. 9 shooting death of 28-year-old Deon Dunklin.

The shooting happened at 6:10 p.m. that Wednesday at Frosting’s barber shop, which is in the 1400 block of Woodward Road.

Bell said some kind of argument erupted between the two men.

Dunklin of McCalla, stumbled outside after he was wounded and collapsed. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:44 p.m.

The shooter fled the scene.

Bell said Mullin surrendered to police on Sunday. Investigators on Monday obtained the murder warrant against him.

Mullin is awaiting transfer to the Jefferson County Jail.
