2 charged in weekend Tuscaloosa shootout that injured 2; more arrests possible

Two people have been charged following a weekend gunfight in Tuscaloosa.

Police were called about 8 p.m. Saturday to the 700 block of 33rd Street East on a report of a shooting. That location is Hodo Haven apartments.

When officers arrived, they found two people injured. Both were taken to DCH Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy said investigators interviewed multiple witnesses were interviewed and reviewed surveillance video from the area.

“It was determined that one group of individuals fired upon one of the injured individuals first, who then returned fire in apparent self-defense,’’ Kennedy said. “One of suspects was also injured in during the exchange of fire.”

Kennedy said multiple people were seeing firing their guns.

Those charged with attempted murder Kejuan Arrington, 25, and Antwone Stowe, 23.

Arrington is being held without bond. Stowe is being held on $250,000 bond.

Kennedy said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible. The investigation into the issue of self-defense will also continue to be investigated and eventually turned over to the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s Office for review.
