An investigation is ongoing after a man was found shot to death in a Birmingham ditch Sunday morning.
West Precinct officers were dispatched at 6:37 a.m. to a report of a person down in the southwest part of the city.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said police got to the scene at 50th Street S.W. and Park Avenue and found the victim unresponsive in a ditch on the side of the road. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office determined the victim had been shot. A passerby made the discovery.
The victim has not yet been identified.
He is the city’s 86th homicide victim this year. Of those, one was an officer involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and seven others have been ruled justified and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.

The victim is one of two men found dead in shootings Sunday in western Birmingham.
About 10 a.m., family members of a missing 22-year-old man discovered him shot to death inside his SUV in Dolomite Westfield Park.
