Halloween weather: It’s a mixed bag for Alabama

It’s almost time to hit the streets for Halloween trick or treating.

Oct. 31 falls on Monday this year, but holiday activities will be going on through the weekend.

The big question is: Will the weather fall into the trick or treat category?

It’s looking like it will be a mixed bag for Alabama, according to forecasters. Saturday will be soggy, but Monday could be OK to even nice depending on where you are.

Storms are in the forecast for part of Alabama for Saturday.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has put the southwest part of Alabama in a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather on Saturday. A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible. (See the map at the top of this post.)

The National Weather Service in Mobile said the strongest storms could have damaging wind gusts, and a tornado can’t be ruled out.

Here’s the outlook for southwest Alabama for Saturday.

A storm or two will be possible in other parts of west Alabama on Saturday, but organized severe weather isn’t expected, according to the weather service.

Rain will be possible statewide, however.

Rain will move into Alabama on Saturday from west to east. It could be a good, soaking rain that helps to put a dent in drought conditions in some areas, but it won’t be good for candy canvassing.

The best time for rain will unfortunately be Saturday afternoon through Saturday night, according to the weather service.

High temperatures on Saturday will be in the upper 60s in north Alabama, the low to mid-70s in central Alabama and the upper 70s in south Alabama:

Rain could linger into the day on Sunday, but rain chances should begin to decrease from west to east.

The forecast looks better for Monday, Oct. 31.

There could be some lingering drizzle in north and north-central Alabama on Halloween, but the chances are on the low side, according to the weather service. South Alabama should see drier conditions and warmer temperatures on Monday.

Highs on Monday will range from the upper 60s in north Alabama to the low 70s in central Alabama to the mid- to even upper 70s in south Alabama.
