U.S. Steel drops nearly 5% on fairly even trading day
It was a fairly even day on Wall Street in the wake of the latest inflation report, and the same could be said of our Birmingham and Alabama Stock Report, which had 17 gainers and 15 decliners.
The biggest numbers came on the down side as U.S. Steel and Medical Properties Trust lost 4.7% and 4.4%, respectively.
Outside of that, no stock lost more than 1.8% or gained more than 1.5%.
First US Bancshares, Inc. was the biggest gainer at 1.5%. It is a Birmingham-based bank holding company that operates one banking subsidiary, First US Bank. It has 12 branches across the state, including Birmingham and Calera.
Nucor lost 1.8% and Community Health Systems fell 1.1%.
Overall, Stocks swung through shaky trading Thursday following the latest update on inflation across the U.S., only to end up roughly where they started.
