McAdory blitzes past Calera
McAdory forced five turnovers, including two in the first-half that led to touchdowns, and ran away with a 30-9 home victory Thursday night.
McAdory quarterback Jacob Clopton threw touchdown passes of 56, 33 and 17 yards and added a 1-yard touchdown run as the Yellow Jackets led 30-3 at halftime.
“We came out and executed the way we needed on offense,” McAdory coach Aryvia Holmes said. “We made some plays we haven’t been making this season. We were in good field position most of the night.”
McAdory’s Ladedric Taylor intercepted a pass early in the second quarter, and Clopton followed with a 56-yard touchdown pass to Erin Billingsley for a 14-3 lead. Then, Joel Nelson caused a Calera fumble, which led to Clopton’s 17-yard touchdown pass to Jacorey Whitted with 1:04 to go before halftime.
The Yellow Jackets (6-4) have won two of their last three games heading into the first round of the 6A playoffs next week. Calera (4-6) has lost two straight games heading into the playoffs.
