Alabama puts 8 on MaxPreps junior All-America team

Alabama is well represented on the 2023 Preseason MaxPreps Junior All-America Football Team, announced today by the national high school sports website, led by Mr. Football Ryan Williams of Saraland.

The speedy wide receiver is joined on the first team by Vigor offensive lineman Micah DeBose, Charles Henderson defensive lineman Zion Grady and defensive backs Anquon Fegans of Thompson and Na’eem Offord of Parker.

Running back Alvin Henderson of Elba, defensive lineman Jared Smith of Spain Park and all-purpose back Derick Smith of Southside-Selma were second-team selections.

The website staff selected 54 players for the All-America team. Mater Dei High of Santa Ana, Calif., IMG Academy of Bradenton, Fla., and Miami Central had three players each selected on the two all-star squads.

Alabama’s five first-team selections were tied with Georgia for the most picks on the first team. Florida had four. In total, 45 schools had at least one player selected from 15 states.

The announcement’s author, Zack Poff, said Williams “Put up video game numbers as a sophomore, accounting for 2,700 all-purpose yards and 42 touchdowns.”

Of DeBose, he said, “The 2025 Georgia pledge is one of the most dominant offensive tackles in the country.”

Poff said of Offord, “The top-rated cornerback in the Class of 2025 checks all the boxes.”
