Planned Huntsville downtown development now has a name

A mixed-use development planned for downtown Huntsville now has a name.

The project will be known as Bartley Lofts, a six-floor apartment complex with retail offerings at the former site of the Huntsville Aquatic Center on Monroe Street across from Embassy Suites.

Argosy Real Estate Partners – with offices in Pennsylvania, Colorado and California – announced earlier this month that it had purchased the 2.6-acre lot in partnership with Doradus Partners, a boutique real estate investment company in Huntsville, and RCP Companies, a Huntsville real estate firm.

RCP is developing CityCentre, a project overlooking Big Spring Park in Huntsville that includes the AC Hotel by Marriott as well as The Eclipse apartment complex. Bartley Lofts is part of the CityCentre master plan.

AL.com first reported on the planned development at the former aquatic center site last year but details were few at that point in time.

Argosy said that its development will include 273 units – essentially the same number that is in The Eclipse – with 8,360 square feet of ground floor retail. Floor plans for the units call for studio, one- and two-bedroom layouts with an average size of 904 square feet. Plans also include a resort-style pool and courtyard, fitness facility, co-working space and resident lounge among other amenities.

Construction is expected to be completed by late 2025, Argosy said.

Aside from the Bartley Lofts development, CityCentre plans also call for a second hotel at the site as well as a food hall. Shane Davis, the city of Huntsville’s director of urban and economic development, told the city council last year the new hotel will be Moxy, which is part of the Marriott family of hotels. The 15,000 square foot food hall is planned for the ground floor of the Moxy.

Plans also call for Lowe Avenue to be extended to connect Joseph Lowery Boulevard and Monroe Street along a strip of land deemed surplus by the city last year through the CityCentre development.

The CityCentre growth will also be in close proximity to a mixed-use development along St. Clair Avenue – the Vista at Councill Square – that broke ground in August 2022. It will be a 5-floor building with 336 apartment units with additional phases planned in the future.
