Alabama schools closing Aug. 9: Anticipated storm prompts early dismissal
Another anticipated round of severe storms is prompting an Alabama school system to modify its schedule for Wednesday.
Russellville City Schools has announced it will be dismissing at noon Wednesday. All after-school activities are also cancelled, according to the system.
According to the National Weather Service, strong straight-line winds are the main concern, but there will also be a risk for hail and heavy rain. The tornado risk is low but not zero.
The most likely time for storms will begin later this afternoon (as soon as 1 p.m. for northwest Alabama) and last into the nighttime hours.
