Alabama flips 4-star safety Peyton Woodyard’s commitment from Georgia

Alabama football flipped a commitment from two-time defending national champion Georgia on Tuesday. Safety Peyton Woodyard announced on social media that he will be joining the Crimson Tide’s class of 2024.

Woodyard is a four-star prospect according to 247Sports’ composite ratings. He is listed as the No. 6 safety and No. 81 player nationally.

He had committed to Georgia in January. Woodyard also had interest from Ohio State and USC among other schools.

Woodyard plays his high school football at St. John Bosco in California. According to Maxpreps, he finished last season with 53 total tackles and an interception, along with seven pass breakups.

Greg Biggins, a national recruiting analyst for 247Sports, praised Woodyard’s work ethic and leadership, but also noted his on-field ability.

“Plays in a defense where he’s asked to cover and play run support and does both very well,’ Biggins wrote. “Shows good range and covers a lot of ground on the back end. He’s a plus athlete who runs well and makes plays sideline to sideline. He’s a solid tackler and will fly off the hash in run support and does a nice job wrapping up and rarely misses in a one on one situation.”

Woodyard stands 6-foot-2 and weighs in at 188 pounds. He also plays baseball for St. John Bosco.

Woodyard became the first safety commitment of Alabama’s 2024 class. That group includes one other defensive back in cornerback Zabien Brown, also from California.

He becomes the 16th commitment in the the class of 2024 for the Crimson Tide. The group was ranked No. 10 in the nation on the 247 composite before flipping Woodyard.
