Alabama severe weather damage photos for Monday, Aug. 8

Severe weather walloped north Alabama on Monday afternoon, dealing damage that included blowing out the windows of the Cullman County Public Library.

The storms that rocked north Alabama are expected to reach other areas of the state later Monday, but the Tennessee Valley was expected to be hit the hardest.

The storms blew out the library’s windows in Cullman, forcing the institution to shutter its doors, according to Nelson Tucker, administrator of the website Tornado Talk. Tucker tweeted photos of the damage:

Cullman resident Wendy Ryan said the straight-line winds blew the roof off her gazebo. The debris ended up in her pool.

“I guess God decided to rearrange the pool area for us,” she tweeted:

Large trees were also downed in Cullman, while the wind toppled a trampoline:

In Arab, a tree was uprooted and damaged a fence:

Central and east Alabama were also hit by the severe weather.

In Snead, in Blount County, a tree was ripped out of the ground:

In Springville, the storms tore siding off a roof and toppled a children’s playground on its side:
