Auburn woman accused of illegally tracking estranged husband, possessing large-animal tranquilizer

An Auburn woman is facing a dozen criminal charges after authorities say she was tracking her estranged husband, and was in possession of a large amount of large-animal tranquilizer.

Shelby Claire Sipe, 33, is charged with one count of third-degree domestic violence-criminal surveillance, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and 10 counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Lee County sheriff’s deputies on Saturday received a report of four tracking devices found on two vehicles in the 1100 block of Lee Road 72 in the Camp Hill community, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Amanda Ingram.

The victim told investigators his estranged wife may be involved.

Court records show the couple married in 2018 and began divorce proceedings earlier this year.

Sheriff’s investigators carried out a search warrant at Sipe’s home in the 100 block of Blasted Rock Road in Auburn.

During the search, investigators located four tracking devices that appeared to be of the same type as those discovered on the victim’s vehicles, Ingram said.

They also found multiple types of prescription pills and three quart-size zip lock bags of what is believed to be ketamine, which is a large animal tranquilizer.

Sipe was booked into the Lee County Jail and since released on bonds totaling $17,000.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
