The deputy, whose identity was not released, was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital by Walton County Fire Rescue. He was conscious and is expected to make a full recovery.

The deputy wasn’t the only person with a close encounter with lightning Sunday. Earlier in the day, Walton deputies responded to a call for a water rescue at Morrison Springs. A female at that location had possible been struck by lightning and bystanders performed CPR until first responders arrived.

The woman was ultimately airlifted to a treatment center by Walton Air Rescue. Details on her condition were not immediately known.
