Excessive heat warnings for Alabama on Monday
Much of Alabama will be under excessive heat warnings on Monday, and the National Weather Service is forecasting air temperatures to climb as high as 100 degrees in some parts of the state this afternoon.
The air temperature combined with high humidity levels will make it feel even hotter — possibly as hot as 114 degrees, according to forecasters.
There will also be a chance for severe weather, including damaging winds, this afternoon as a storm system moves into the state.
High temperatures on Monday are expected to climb well into the 90s statewide, and some spots in south Alabama have the potential to hit 100 degrees, according to forecasters.

More heat advisories or heat warnings will likely be needed on Tuesday for parts of Alabama as well, according to forecasters.

CENTRAL ALABAMA
* Excessive heat warning until 9 p.m. Monday for Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Chilton, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Lowndes, Elmore, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Russell, Pike, Barbour, Shelby, Coosa, Tallapoosa and Lee counties.
The National Weather Service said the heat index could climb as high as 113 today.
* Heat advisory until 9 p.m. Monday for Marion, Winston, Blount, St. Clair, Talladega, Clay, Chambers, Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Randolph, Lamar, Fayette, Walker and Jefferson counties.
The weather service said heat index values up to 108 will be possible.
SOUTH ALABAMA
* Excessive heat warning until 7 p.m. Monday for Choctaw, Washington, Clarke, Wilcox, Monroe, Conecuh, Butler, Crenshaw, Escambia, Covington, Mobile and, Baldwin counties.
The National Weather Service in Mobile said heat index values up to 114 are expected.
* Excessive heat warning from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday for Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston counties.
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee, Fla., said heat heat index values up to 113 are expected.
* Excessive heat watch on Tuesday for Choctaw, Washington, Clarke, Wilcox, Monroe, Conecuh, Butler, Crenshaw, Escambia, Covington, Mobile and Baldwin counties.
* Excessive heat watch on Tuesday for Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston counties.
Tuesday is expected to be very hot, but not for all of Alabama. Some areas in north and north-central Alabama will have slightly “cooler” temperatures, according to forecasters.
