Car theft leads to early-morning Fultondale shootout; 2 injured, suspect at large
Two men were shot early Sunday during an exchange of gunfire following a car theft in Fultondale.
The ordeal began about 1 a.m. when a man was visiting a friend at an apartment complex, police said.
He left his Ford Mustang running, and a short time later heard the engine rev.
He went outside and saw someone stealing his car. He and a friend jumped into another vehicle and began to pursue the stolen car.
After following the stolen Mustang for about 1 ½ miles, said Fultondale police Sgt. John Tanks, gunfire was exchanged between both vehicles.
The shooting happened on Carson Road.
The man who had his car stolen, and his friend who was helping him track it down, both were shot. They drove to a nearby Shell gas station, and summoned police.
The men were taken to UAB Hospital. Tanks said their injuries aren’t life-threatening.
The suspect remains at large. Police are looking for the stolen 2017 red Ford Mustang.
