Body recovered in search for Orange Beach drowing victim
A body believed to be that of a missing swimmer was recovered Sunday morning in Orange Beach.
Multiple agencies had responded to a call Saturday evening about a swimmer in distress in the Perdido Pass area.
According to information posted on the City of Orange Beach Fire Department’s Facebook page, bystanders told first responders that “an approximately 26-year-old male [had] disappeared in the waters of the pass” and that “prior to calling 911 a bystander attempted a rescue but was unsuccessful and returned to shore safely.”
According to the post, the resulting search involved Orange Beach Fire/Rescue, Orange Beach Surf Rescue, the Orange Beach Police Department and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. “Responders searched the waters utilizing vessels with side scan sonar, personal watercraft, and Orange Beach Fire Rescue divers, as well as lifeguards conducting grid searches from shore.”
The fruitless search was called off at nightfall and resumed Sunday morning. A body was located at about 8:30 a.m. The victim has not yet been publicly identified. “Please keep the family in your prayers,” said the fire department post announcing the find.
