Mobile County buys mega acres of pristine wetlands in Dog River

An investment group paid $2.2 million for 35 acres at the southeast corner of Baldwin County 32 and the Baldwin Beach Express in Summerdale, according to Herrington Realty. The buyers plan to use the property for future development.

Mobile County paid $2 million for 291 acres of pristine wetlands in the Dog River Watershed off Halls Mill Road in Mobile, according to Mike Reid of Merrill P. Thomas Co., who represented the sellers. The purchase funds were from revenues collected under the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006 also known as GoMesa, to preserve and protect the ecosystem. The property comprises one of the largest contiguous undeveloped acreage of bottomland hardwood wetlands remaining in the Great Dog River Watershed.

A mixed-use development on more than 7 acres on the Intracoastal Waterway in Gulf Shores has received the green light for rezoning by the Gulf Shores Planning Commission before it goes to the city for review and approval. 24 Canal Place is planned for two parcels on the Intracoastal split by the Ala. 59 bridge and includes the former White Knight Seafood on 4.17 acres and another 3 acres on the east side. The project in the Gulf Shores Waterway Village District would feature shopping, dining, residential, entertainment and marina uses with 28 transient slips on the east side of the bridge for boaters to park and access the venue.

A local investor paid $625,000 for the 12,000-square-foot, former Aaron’s building at 2740 Pass Road in Biloxi, MS., according to Andrew Dickman of Stirling Properties, who represented the buyer.

Levin Rinke Realty has expanded its office space to 3,728 square feet in the SCI building at 220 W. Garden St., in Pensacola, FL, according to Jason Scott of Stirling Properties, who represented the landlord.
