Driver in fatal Huntsville hit-and-run turns himself in to police

The apparent driver in a hit-and-run which killed a pedestrian in Huntsville Friday night turned himself into police, the Huntsville Police Department said Saturday morning.

Aaron Glenn Prater, 26, turned himself in at Huntsville police headquarters hours after the accident in which a pedestrian was struck while walking in the 3800 block of University Drive shortly before 8:20 p.m. Friday. The victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prater is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death or personal injury. He remained in the Madison County Jail under $2,500 bond as of midday Saturday.

In Alabama, leaving the scene of an accident which resulted in death is a Class C felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $15,000.
