Naked man arrested on New Orleans street, charged with murder of roommate

A man wearing only a hardhat was taken into custody near the scene of a homicide in New Orleans and charged with beating his roommate to death, NOLA.com is reporting.

New Orleans police say 24-year-old Adam Belanouane is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 23-year-old roommate. Belanouane apparently believed his girlfriend was cheating with his roommate, according to police.

The roommate was found dead, his body covered with a white bed sheet at about 7:10 a.m. Thursday. At the home on Burgundy Steet, police found the head of a golf club nearby, according to a police report obtained by NOLA.com. Police reported finding blood splattered around the house and on the ceiling and brain matter visible on the floor.

Investigators spoke with neighbors, who said Belanouane had told them earlier in the week he believed his girlfriend was cheating on him, according to the report obtained by NOLA.com. Following that interview, a detective walked back to the crime scene and noticed Belanouane, naked save for a hardhat, walking along the street.

Police took him into custody after noting “fresh injuries” to his body, according to the report. Detectives also interviewed Belanouane’s girlfriend, who also said he had accused her of cheating.

Belanouane is being held without bond in the Orleans Parish Jail pending an initial court appearance Friday afternoon.
