Witnesses told authorities Alexander and his passenger were driving on Narrows Road when they noticed a vehicle following them closely. The man then pulled over his vehicle while the other vehicle also stopped.

Alexander approached Burney and an argument ensued, sheriff’s officials said.

Burney is accused of firing a shot that struck Alexander in the abdomen.

Alexander was taken to UAB Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition until he was pronounced dead at 8:20 p.m. Monday, June 12.

His obituary described him as a loving son, brother, and father.

“He was a hard worker and a kind, loving man. He loved working for Ingle Demolition and Salvage, Inc, as well as tinkering with cars, buliding model cars, playing pool, and being out on the lake with his friends on the boat,’’ the obituary read. “He always stayed busy working on something or just spending time with especially his grandchildren that he cherished so much.”
