A woman charged with plotting to kill her estranged husband has been granted bond in the Bahamas.
Lindsay Shiver, a 36-year-old former Miss Houston County in Dothan, was granted bail on Tuesday, according to bahamascourtnews.com.
Shiver, a mother of three sons who now lives in Georgia, was arrested on charges that she, her lover and another man conspired to kill her husband, former AU long snapper Robert Shiver. The couple has a vacation home in the Bahamas.
Also charged are Terrance Bethel, a 28-year-old bar manager with whom Shiver is reportedly involved romantically, and Faron Newbold Jr., 29. All three were arrested on July 21.
The news agency reported that the prosecutor withdrew an objection to the suspects’ release after speaking with Robert Shiver.
The alleged murder plot was uncovered when authorities were investigating a break-in at a bar in Guana Cay. Messages discovered on social media app WhatsApp led to the criminal charges against the trio, but the details of those messages have not been released.
The New York Post reported that Robert Shiver, who played at Auburn from 2006-2008, was outside with his children Tuesday when he was approached by a reporter.
“My kids don’t know the whole thing yet. I’m going to try to tell them in the next day or so,” Shiver told The Post. “They’re young.”
A representative of Robert Shiver, who is the executive vice president at Senior Life Insurance Company in Georgia, told AL.com Wednesday that he is not granting interviews or making any statements at this time.
According to bahamascourtnews.com, Lindsay Shiver was granted $100,000 cash bail. She has to wear an ankle bracelet and remain in the Bahamas until her Oct. 5 court date.
Bethel and Newbold were each granted $20,000 bail.
The news agency reported that all three suspects had to surrender their passports and are banned from having any contact with Robert Shiver.
Robert Shiver and Lindsay Shiver married on March 6, 2010, and since have had three sons, all under the age of 12.
Georgia Superior Court records obtained by AL.com show that Robert Shiver filed for divorce from Lindsay Shirley Shiver on April 5, contending he was entitled to a divorce “based upon her adulterous conduct.”
Lindsay Shiver then filed for divorce on April 6, contending the marriage was “irretrievably broken with no hope whatsoever for a reconciliation.”
Both are seeking primary custody of the three boys as well as their, $2 million, 7,000-square-feet-plus home in Thomasville, Ga.
LIndsay Shiver in her filing said the couple has incurred debts which are “far beyond her means to pay.”
Robert Shiver, in his complaint, said LIndsay Shiver is “able-bodied” with a 2009 marketing degree from Auburn and should not be entitled to alimony.
Court records show Lindsay Shiver’s Georgia divorce attorney on Tuesday filed a motion to withdraw from the case.
