Isolated severe storms possible in Alabama on Thursday
A few strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible across the northern half of Alabama on Thursday, according to forecasters.
The strongest storms could contain wind gusts up to 60 mph as well as heavy rain. Localized flooding will be possible.
The most likely time for storms will be Thursday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has placed the northern half of Alabama in a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather on Thursday.
A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.
Rain and storms will be possible across the rest of Alabama as well on Thursday, but severe weather is not expected there.
The weather service said clusters of rain and storms are expected to form north of Alabama and move into the state Thursday afternoon and evening. A few could reach severe limits during that timeframe.
Forecasters added that more rounds of rain and storms will be possible on Friday, with additional threats for damaging wind gusts and heavy rain.
So far, however, the Storm Prediction Center has not put any part of Alabama in a severe weather risk for Friday.
Stay tuned, the weather service said.
