Man and woman shot to death in apparent murder-suicide in Mobile now identified

Mobile police have identified the victims from an apparent murder-suicide on Sunday.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a domestic altercation with shots fired on the 1000 block of Burdette Drive. They found the victim, identified on Tuesday as 31-year-old Lakeva Dees, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the police department. She was transported to a local hospital and later died.

The two victims in an apparent murder-suicide were found on Marengo Drive and Burdette Drive in Mobile Sunday.

While still on the scene on Burdette, police were notified of another call of shots fired, this one in the 1000 block of Marengo Drive — some 11 miles away. Officers responding to that call found the body of a male, identified as 30-year-old Demetrius Jones, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Mobile police say preliminary investigation indicates Dees was shot during an altercation with Jones at the Burdette Drive location, after which Jones traveled to the Marengo Drive location and shot himself.

The investigation remains open, police said.
