Missing 6-year-old boy who drowned in south Alabama pool identified
A missing boy whose body was recovered from a spring-fed pool in south Alabama early Sunday evening has been identified.
Geneva County Coroner Don Atkinson told AL.com on Monday the child was 6-year-old Brantley Griffin.
Brantley, who was at a birthday party at a Coffee Springs campsite, was reported missing about 3 p.m. Sunday, Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms told WDHN.
The child was last seen in a playground. His family began searching surrounding woods before expanding the search.
Divers found Brantley’s body in a spring-fed pool around 6 p.m. Sunday, Helms told WDHN.
The child had been seen with a flotation device before he disappeared but was not wearing the device when his body was discovered, the sheriff said.
Brantley’s body is being transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.
