Alabama city named one of âTop 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S.â
An Alabama city had been named one of the best cities to live in America.
Hoover made Livability.com’s list of “Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S.” The list, released in June, is a rundown of small and mid-sized cities. To compile the rundown, Livability only considered cities with a population between 75,000 and 500,000. So why don’t larger cities like New York or Los Angles make the list?
According to a description on its website, Livability ranks midsized cities because the county’s largest cities are experiencing an exodus. The goal is to give relocators an idea of where to head next, taking into account a number of factors including affordability, median home value, cost of living, and amenities. Liveability partners with a data analytics company Applied Geographic Solutions to assign the cities a LivScore, or a grade of 0 to 1000 based on quality of life.
Hoover received LivScore of 765.
“Hoover, AL, is a small town with big southern charm — and it just keeps getting bigger,” Livability writes in its ranking. “With a population of 90,000 and growing, it’s clear that residents new and old alike appreciate the city’s top-rated public school system (which ranks in the highest 10% of the whole state), and its enviable outdoor amenities like Moss Rock Preserve and Aldridge Gardens, all making it one of the best places to live in the U.S.”
Livability also praised Hoover’s healthy economy, noting the unemployment rate in the Birmingham-Hoover metropolitan area was 2.2% in February 2023, down from the national average of 3.6% at the time). They also mentioned Hoover being home to corporate headquarters like AT&T Alabama, BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama, and Regions Financial Corporation.
While noting the city’s proximity to Birmingham, Livability also mentioned Hoover’s “world-class medical facilities” like Children’s of Alabama” and offered details about the area’s weather, outdoor activities and fun things to do. They singled out the Hoover Met Explore Playground and Splash Pad, Hoover Antique Gallery and Jake’s Soulfood Cafe.
Other cities on Livability’s Top 100 list include Jersey City, N.J., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Johns Creek, Ga.
