Authorities have released the name of a pedestrian who was fatally struck on Interstate 65 in Birmingham earlier this week.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Christopher Shaun Cotney. He was 44 and lived in Talladega.

The crash happened at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday on I-65 northbound at Fourth Avenue South. Cotney was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:50 a.m.

Authorities said Cotney was crossing the northbound lanes when he was hit. The driver stopped and called police.
