Former Alabama pitcher Luke Holman staying in SEC, transferring to LSU
One of Alabama baseball’s top players from last season has reportedly found his new home, staying within the SEC. Luke Holman announced on his Instagram account that he’ll be heading to LSU out of the transfer portal.
The news was first reported by Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.
Holman, a right-handed pitcher, was excellent for the Crimson Tide in 81 innings of action last season. He finished the year with 87 strikeouts and a 3.67 ERA.
Holman was the pitcher scratched ahead of a regular season game against LSU before former coach Brad Bohannon was investigated for suspicious gambling activity, which ultimately led to the coach’s firing. The pitcher entered the transfer portal after the Crimson Tide fell in an NCAA tournament super regional against Wake Forest.
LSU went on to win the College World Series title, beating Florida in the final series. The Tigers have now added two Alabama pitchers through the portal this offseason, with Holman joining Kade Woods in Baton Rouge.
Holman will enter his junior year next season. He came to Tuscaloosa from West Lawn High School in Pennsylvania and was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays when his prep career ended, opting to attend Alabama instead.
His 87 strikeouts were tied for 10th in the SEC last season. He tied for Alabama’s team lead in wins, with a 7-4 record.
