Birmingham nonprofit awarded $3 million for community health worker training program

Local nonprofit ConnectionHealth was recently awarded a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to expand their existing community health workers’ (CHWs) training program according to the nonprofit’s recent press release.

With this grant, named the ACHIEVE (Alabama Community Health Worker Institute for Education, Vocational Training, and Engagement) grant, ConnectionHealth’s press release said they will:

● Establish a statewide coalition and Stakeholder Advisory Board in Alabama.

● Train a total of 130 new CHWs and upskill 40 existing CHWs

● Revise ConnectionHealth’s current CHW training curriculum to mirror established competencies more closely
