Teen charged in machete attack at Pensacola bar, police say
A 19-year-old Pensacola resident is charged with attempted murder after reportedly attacking a man with a machete at a downtown Pensacola bar Sunday night, according to Pensacola police.
The incident took place at the Old Hickory Whiskey Bar on Palafox Street shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday.
Officers responding to a call from the bar learned the suspect walked into the bar and, at some point, pulled the concealed machete out and struck the victim in the head. The victim, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
When police arrived, the suspect was still armed with the machete. Officers ordered him to drop the weapon, but he refused, prompting police to tase him to disarm him. The suspect had no identification on him and refused to provide his name to police.
Ultimately, however, police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Andrew James Ryder. Ryder has been charged with attempted homicide, resisting arrest, assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remained in the Escambia County (Fla.) Jail as of Monday morning under total bond of $172,000.
